Odisha Girls Take Govt's 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' To The Next Level

Berhampur: Today's education system has become so burdensome that students fail to take out time for  extra-curricular activities, but two girl students of Krupasindhupalli under Patrapur block in Ganjam district have struck a balance between studies and social work.

Every morning, both M. Sibani Dora and E. Sandhya Dora step out of their homes with brooms and undertake cleaning activity in the village. They sweep the village roads, temples and all those places where they find garbage littered.

“We want to keep our village clean and hence, we sweep the roads and also the temple premises on a daily basis,” said Sibani.

Speaking about her habit, Sandhya said, “People in urban areas are more conscious about sanitation due to several cleanliness campaigns including Swacchh Bharat Abhiyan. However, no such campaigns are being launched in villages. So to create awareness about the importance of sanitation, we have taken up the special drive.”

Their habit has now inspired other students and people of the village to keep their surrounding clean. “We need to learn from the two girls that keeping the environment clean is an important part of our lives,” said a local priest.

Sibani and Sandhya have undoubtedly taken government’s significant cleanliness campaign, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, to the next level in Odisha.
