Bhubaneswar: A tribal girl from Odisha’s Koraput district has brought laurels for the State by winning the Miss India International Photogenic title at a beauty pageant in Jakarta, Indonesia recently.

Santwana B Simran, who belongs to Desia tribe, an ethnic indigenous community of Koraput, won the crown by defeating 20 other contestants. She is the first person from her community to win the title.

After her achievement, Santwana now aims to participate in other beauty contests like Femina Miss India, Miss World and Miss Universe contests and is also ready to take up modelling as a career.

“The competition was really tough but I finally managed to land the title. I hope to participate in many such beauty contests in future like Miss World, Miss Diva India and FBB Miss India,” an elated Santwana said.

Family members of Santwana have also expressed happiness for her success.

“She had won Miss Koraput 2019 title organised on May 25 this year and now she has been crowned Miss India International Photogenic title in Indonesia. Though Koraput is a backward district and lacks basic infrastructure, she won the international beauty contest for which I am proud,” said Santwana’s father.
