A minor girl from Rajgangpur suffered severe burns late at night, a day before yesterday, and is in critical condition, prompting the Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling to visit her at Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Sundargarh district on Sunday.

The Minister stated that if necessary, the critically injured girl may be shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar or New Delhi for advanced treatment.
According to sources, the minor girl has suffered severe burns after allegedly attempting to die by suicide by setting herself on fire. Health Minister Mahaling evaluated her health status. He stated that her condition remains critical, with more than 90 percent of her body burned, and if necessary, she will be shifted to any of the specialised hospitals.
The minor, a +3 student from Rajgangpur’s Sarbati Devi Women's College, had attempted ‘self-immolation’. Her family and neighbours had rushed her to the government-run hospital in critical condition yesterday. The reasons behind the fatal burn incident remain unclear.
Sundargarh police have detained a youth in connection with the case and are conducting further investigations. Medical staff are providing intensive care while authorities monitor the situation closely, ensuring that all necessary support and treatment are available to save the young girl’s life.
“The doctor in charge, Ruby Singh, has been treating the minor girl. As per the doctor’s version, the girl student has sustained around 92 percent burn injuries. I was discussing with the Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar for further consultation. A team of doctors is also taking care of the girl here at IGH,” the Health Minister said.
“Making the patient stable is barely necessary at this moment. We are looking into what the best possible treatment can be provided to her. If required, we will air-lift the patient either to Bhubaneswar or to New Delhi. A final call in this regard will be taken after considering the patient’s health condition,” Minister Mahaling expressed.
