Senior OdishaCongress leader Sura Routray has indicated that he may contest elections again, signalling a possible return to active electoral politics from the Jatani constituency in Khordha district.

The senior leader made the remarks on Monday, stating that he would consider contesting on a Congress ticket if there is public demand for his candidature.

Claim Of Congress Defeat Linked To His Absence

Routray claimed that the Congress lost the Jatani seat in the last election because he did not contest. He asserted that the party would regain the constituency if he returns to the fray, expressing confidence in Congress’ organisational strength and electoral prospects in the area.

According to Routray, the party continues to maintain a strong grassroots presence in Jatani, and the outcome would be different if he were to contest again.

Engagement With Public And Party Activities

The senior Congress leader said he remains actively engaged with people and continues to participate in various programmes across the constituency. He also claimed that the party has both organisational strength and adequate financial resources, adding that these factors would help Congress secure victory in future elections.

Routray Reaffirms Commitment To Politics

Reiterating his long-standing association with public life, Routray said, “Even if I do not contest from the Jatani constituency, Congress will definitely win there, irrespective of who contests... Congress lost there last time because I did not contest. If people want me to contest, I will do so. I act according to the wishes of the people. Whether or not I remain in mainstream politics, my engagement will continue till the end of my life.”
