Odisha CM issues stern warning to perpetrators of violence against women; reiterates zero-tolerance policy

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Monday issued a strong warning to those involved in crimes against women, asserting that offenders will face strict action and that jail is the only place for perpetrators of violence against women.

Addressing the Republic Day celebrations in Cuttack, the Chief Minister said that women constitute nearly half of the state’s population and ensuring their safety and dignity remains the government’s highest priority. “Women’s safety and respect come first for us. We are fully committed to protecting women,” he said.

Majhi underlined that the state government follows a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and made it clear that such acts will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He said the conviction rate in cases of violence against women was low earlier but has increased after the current government came to power, reflecting stricter enforcement of law.

“The only address for those who commit violence against women is jail. Violence against women will never be tolerated,” the Chief Minister said, warning offenders of stringent punishment.

Highlighting women-centric welfare initiatives, Majhi said the government has launched several schemes aimed at empowering women, including the Subhadra scheme. He also said Odisha has taken a lead in implementing the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative, which focuses on economic empowerment of women.

The Chief Minister reiterated Odisha government’s commitment to strengthening women’s safety, dignity and empowerment through both strict law enforcement and targeted welfare programmes.
