In a significant move to strengthen technical education in the State, the Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday approved the ambitious ‘Utkarsh ITI Yojana’, aimed at upgrading selected Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into Zonal Utkarsh ITIs.

The initiative seeks to make the selected ITIs more competitive, inclusive, and aligned with emerging industry needs through a robust skilling ecosystem.

Under the scheme, five government ITIs – Government ITI Puri, Government ITI Bolangir, Government ITI Ambaguda, Koraput, Government ITI Rajkanika, Kendrapada, and Government ITI Rourkela, Sundargarh – will be upgraded with modern facilities and advanced training infrastructure.

Key features of the Utkarsh ITIs include:

1. Industry-ready Infrastructure with modern labs, smart classrooms, digital learning spaces and renovated infrastructure are to be developed in these ITIS.

2. These ITIS are to function as zonal hubs for advanced training, faculty development, assessments, and innovation.

3. Entrepreneurship Promotion and Placement Cells to support self-employment and job placements are to be improved.

4. Strategically located around key industrial and educational hubs for easy trainee access and alignment with regional skill needs.

Worth mentioning, the Odisha government has decided to form a new economic region covering Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri and Paradip. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held at Lok Seva Bhawan under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister.

The plan aims to develop cities in the region as growth hubs through improved connectivity and infrastructure.
