Odisha Budget 2026-27: Six lakh left-out beneficiaries to get pension

In a major announcement during the Odisha Budget 2026-27 presentation, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi declared that old-age and widow pension benefits will now be made more accessible, ensuring that no eligible person has to wait to receive assistance.

Under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana, all eligible beneficiaries will be included without delay. The Chief Minister stated that the earlier rule of filling vacancies only after the death of an existing beneficiary will no longer be applicable.

More than six lakh eligible individuals who were previously left out will now receive pension benefits. CM Majhi alleged that the previous government had acted unfairly in this matter, depriving many deserving beneficiaries of financial support.

In addition, the Budget also announced the launch of ‘Chilika Restoration’ scheme aimed at addressing geomorphological instability and ensuring ecological balance in the region.

The Odisha government has allocated Rs 10 crore for inter-state river linking projects and Rs 80 crore for protection and tourism development along the Mahanadi.

An amount of Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for the renovation of old and damaged irrigation infrastructure. Additionally, Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the establishment of 100 Smart Farm Markets (Model Mandis) across the state.

The government has also announced Rs 240 crore for the implementation of the world’s largest grain storage scheme.

The Budget for the financial year 2026-27 was presented in the State Legislative Assembly by Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mohan Majhi.

Last year, the state government had presented a budget with an outlay of Rs 2.90 lakh crore. This year, the outlay has been increased to Rs 3.10 lakh crore, marking a 6.9 per cent rise compared to the previous fiscal. A total of Rs 1.14 lakh crore has been allocated towards administrative expenditure.
