Odisha BJP’s 16 sets of nomination papers spark speculation ahead of Rajya Sabha elections

The political atmosphere has heated up as preparations for the Rajya Sabha elections gather momentum. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday purchased 16 sets of nomination papers, drawing attention in political circles.

Chief Whip of the ruling party, Saroj Pradhan, along with Ashrit Pattnaik, Dushmanta Swain, Raghunath Jagadala, and Pratap Nayak, procured the nomination sets. According to Pradhan, the final nominations will be filed only after the Parliamentary Board takes a formal decision.

Numbers in Favour, Yet Questions Remain

Although the BJP reportedly has sufficient numbers to secure two Rajya Sabha seats, the decision to purchase 16 sets of nomination papers has fuelled speculation. The move has triggered discussions over the party’s strategy and possible candidates.

“Today, for the Rajya Sabha elections, we have obtained the nomination papers from the Election Officer. Once our Central Parliamentary Board announces the candidates, we will proceed with filing the nominations. We have given 16 sets of nomination papers,” said Saroj Pradhan, Chief Whip of the ruling party.

As the Parliamentary Board’s decision is awaited, political observers remain keenly watching the developments surrounding the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
