Due to the severity of his condition, he was treated in the Medical Intensive Care Unit for an extended period.

Clinical Course And Deterioration

After prolonged treatment, Majumdar was shifted to the Medicine Ward (E6 – Isolation Room) on November 10, 2025, for continuation of care. At that stage, he was conscious, able to follow simple commands, on a tracheostomy tube and had stable vital parameters. Doctors had planned for his discharge; however, it could not take place due to family and personal reasons.

On January 23, 2026, he developed a new onset infection accompanied by fever. Despite being managed as per standard medical protocols, his condition failed to improve and progressed to refractory septic shock.

Hospital authorities stated that Majumdar suffered cardiac arrest at 7:43 am on January 25, 2026. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was initiated in accordance with Advanced Cardiac Life Support guidelines. However, despite sustained resuscitative efforts, return of spontaneous circulation could not be achieved, and he was clinically declared dead at 9:02 am.

Earlier Health Developments

Majumdar had first fallen ill in late August 2025 and was admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack after serious complications, including low sodium levels, were detected. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in early September and placed on ventilator support in the ICU.
