Bhubaneswar: Giving is the greatest act of grace. It soothes the benevolent soul to see others make the best use of the donations, just like Satya Sutar who has declared to donate Rs 1 lakh as scholarship to the toppers of annual Matric examination under the Board of Secondary Education each year.

Satya Sutar, a non-resident Odia based in Singapore has announced to grant the scholarship which has been named after legendary freedom fighter and arguably one of the greatest philanthropists Odisha has ever seen, Utkalamani Gopabandhu Das.

Briefing media on his decision to donate money to meritorious Odia medium students, Sutar who hails from a humble family in Keonjhar said that he had seen many hardships in his life and as a boy growing up he loathed poverty and wanted to make it big in life. By sheer hard work and God’s grace, as he has managed to establish himself as a leader at a multinational company in Singapore, Sutar said he wanted to help students realise such dreams in reality.

“I was educated in an Odia medium school and I feel that generally students who get admitted into vernacular medium are economically weaker than the students of English medium schools under CBSE and ICSE curriculum. So I want to help students financially," said Sutar.

He further added, "The state of Odisha has given me so much in terms of opportunity and education. I am now in a position to give back so I would like to do so. I feel that there is no better cause than to support the higher education of a needy student."

To mark the occasion, a short inspiring film, ‘The Topper’ about an underprivileged child who commits suicide was released in the Red Cross auditorium at Bhubaneswar.

Director of the film, Santanu Kumar Sia said, “The movie is aimed to promote the scholarship introduced by Satya Sutar. It’s a short film and I am sure everybody will enjoy this.”

Veteran Odia actor, Pradyumna Lenka along with other actors can be seen in the movie.
