Bhubaneswar: There is no plan to extend the shutdown ordered in 11 districts beyond weekends, clarified Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Pradeep Jena today amid apprehensions that the state could order further shutdown amid rising COVID-19 cases.

Jena’s response is likely to provide respite as rumours were earlier doing rounds regarding the possible extension of the weekend shutdown to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“There is no basis to speculation to the extension of weekend shutdown beyond Saturday & Sunday. Ppl are requested not to resort to unnecessary panic buying,” tweeted Jena.

Earlier, Odisha government had announced complete shutdown on Saturdays and Sundays in 11 districts throughout the month of June.

The weekend shutdown is being implemented in the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Bolangir.

Essential services, including healthcare services and medicine shops are only exempted from the shutdown norms. Police, Fire, Ambulance services are also allowed to remain operational & fuel station will also remain open during this shutdown in the above mentioned districts.
