Popular jatra dance performer Nisha Maharana is most likely to be arrested anytime soon following the registration of a police complaint over an alleged obscene dance performance in Odisha’s Bolangir district. The case has been registered at Bolangir Sadar Police Station after allegations surfaced that an obscene dance was performed during a cultural programme held at Chandanbhati village on the night of January 12.

This is not the first time Nisha Maharana’s performances have drawn controversy. In a similar incident reported recently from Gariaband district in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, members of an organising committee were arrested following allegations of an obscene dance during a public programme featuring Nisha.

Law Against Obscenity

That incident triggered strong administrative action, including the transfer of the local Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the suspension of three police personnel for alleged lapses in supervision and enforcement.

Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against any individual or organisation found violating the law or promoting obscenity in public events. Further developments in the case are awaited as the investigation continues.
