The Odisha Assembly Legislative Advisory Committee is considering the growing demands of salary hikes of the legislators and it is likely to happen soon, informed Chairman of the Advisory Committee Amar Prasad Satpathy on Friday.

As per reports, the members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly have been demanding the government for raising their salaries in view of the rising inflation. Following the rising demands of the MLAs , Odisha Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha on August 1 ordered to form a committee to review the demands.

“We have reviewed the reports regarding the salary of MLAs in other states. In comparison to the salary of Odisha MLAs, legislators of other states are getting much better pay. The current salary hasn’t been revised in the last five years and may soon get revised,” said Satpathy.

“The committee has considered the price index and the condition of other states as well as in Odisha. The salary of MLAs of other states is around Rs 2-2.5 lakh. However, in Odisha, it is Rs 98000. Very soon a report will be sent to the Speaker regarding the same. This will include a plea to hike the salary, pension, and other funds of the MLAs,” added Satpathy.

Satpathy also stated that the discussion will be held in the next meeting.

The committee led by MLA Satpathy comprises legislators of all the parties including Congress and BJP.
