Newborn’s body found abandoned on roadside in Rayagada; Police launch probe

A newborn baby boy was found dead on a roadside in Godabarish Nagar area of Odisha’s Rayagada district late on Thursday night, sending shockwaves through the locality.

According to preliminary information, the infant’s body, wrapped in a cloth, was allegedly dumped on the road under the cover of darkness. Local residents discovered the body on Friday morning and immediately informed the police.

Police Recover Body, Begin Investigation

Upon receiving the information, police reached the spot and recovered the body of the newborn. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation.

Authorities have launched a probe to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident. The identity of the person responsible for abandoning the infant and the motive behind the act remain unknown.

CCTV Footage Being Examined

Police officials are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to gather leads. As part of the investigation, they are also questioning the staff of hospitals and nursing homes in the vicinity to determine if any recent childbirth cases are linked to the incident.

The discovery has triggered widespread condemnation among residents, who expressed anguish over the incident.
