Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS officer Abhay on Monday assumed office as the Director General of Police (DGP) and head of police force in Odisha. He took charge from Satyajit Mohanty, who was heading the State police as the interim DGP, this evening during a special function organised at Police Headquarters in Cuttack.

A 1986 batch IPS officer of Odisha cadre, Abhay was serving as the Director of Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, a premier training institute of the country for the Indian Police Service (IPS) officers.

Abhay also worked in the CBI, Bureau of Police Research and Development, CRPF and as Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). During his seven-year tenure in the CBI, he was the DIG of Bank Frauds and Security Cell in New Delhi.

The new DGP is the recipient of Indian Police medal for meritorious service and President’s medal for distinguished service.
