The Odisha government on Wednesday informed the Orissa High Court that the investigation into the death of a Nepali girl student at KIIT University has been completed and the chargesheet has been filed. The accused has been arrested.
According to sources, the Odisha government stated that the investigation is now concluded and the chargesheet has been formally submitted before the court. Meanwhile, the petitioner has sought the High Court’s permission to make KIIT University a party to the proceedings. The Court has scheduled the next hearing for December 2 to hear both sides.
The incident, which occurred on February 16, had sparked widespread concern due to its sensitive and controversial nature. Following the student’s death, a police case was registered, and the accused was taken into custody. With the investigation now concluded, the chargesheet has been officially filed.
Earlier, the Higher Education Department had constituted a high-level committee to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. However, social activist Pratap Mohanty has filed public interest litigation, stating that several aspects of the case reportedly remain uninvestigated and seeking further inquiry.
Earlier on November 21, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had sought a detailed response from the Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja regarding the death of a Nepali student of KIIT University.
