The action was taken following an application by Cuttack-based company Silk Road Shipping and Chartering Limited. Authorities confirmed that the arrest aligns with legal directives and ensures compliance with the court order.

The port administration stated that all necessary steps were taken to secure the vessel while maintaining smooth port operations. An investigation related to the ship and its cargo is going on under court supervision.

However, no comments were received from local police or the port authorities in this regard.

Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, the High Court had directed the immediate release of the Singaporean cargo ship ‘MV Propel Fortune’, which was then arrested over a monetary dispute. The court had ordered the release on the condition of submitting a bank draft of Rs 15.56 lakh.

Ship Chandler MH Bland SL had raised the dispute before the vacation court, alleging non-payment by MV Propel Fortune for the supply of a wide range of provisioning, maintenance and services for the vessel at Paradip Port.

Hearing the case, vacation judge MS Raman had directed the arrest of the cargo ship as it was set to leave the port. However, the court later directed its release after considering the submission of MV Propel Fortune’s counsel.
