During a recent visit to the city, the Minister inspected several old market areas, including Chandan Pokhari and Podala Line, and highlighted the need for a modern market facility to cater to both traders and residents.

Minister Mahapatra directed the District Collector to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) immediately to expedite the project planning and implementation. The new market complex is expected to provide improved infrastructure, better amenities, and enhanced facilities for commercial activities, addressing the long-standing demands of the local business community.

“Koraput urgently needs a market complex. The 70-80-year-old market complex is in a very dilapidated condition. I have visited the spot along with the MLA and the Collector. I have asked to prepare a DPR. A multi-purpose market complex will come up at that place,” Mahapatra said.

The project is part of the government’s broader efforts to modernise urban spaces and improve civic infrastructure in key towns of the state. Officials said the proposed market will be a hub for local trade while also boosting economic activity in Koraput city.

The detailed DPR is expected to outline the design, estimated cost, and timeline for completion, following which the project will move towards implementation.
