Monsoon touches Odisha, to cover entire State by next two days

Bhubaneswar: Despite delay in onset, the southwest monsoon has finally arrived in Odisha giving relief to the people after months of grueling heat wave conditions.

Senior scientist of India Meteorological Department (IMD) Mrutyunjay Mohapatra who will take over as its next Director General (DG) on August 1, said, that the monsoon winds will cover the entire State within 72 hours.

“Despite some delay, the monsoon has finally reached Odisha today. The monsoon is advancing towards the State through Phulbani, Keonjhar and Jamshedpur which means the monsoon has touched almost all the coastal districts and nearby interior districts of the State,” said Mohapatra.

“Under the impact of the onset of monsoon, rainfall activities will continue in the State for next 3 days and by that time the whole of the State would start to receive rainfall. Although there is no exact methodology to gauge long-range state-wise rainfall amount, region-wise data analysis predicts that Odisha will get normal rainfall this season,” added Mohapatra.

It is to be mentioned that monsoon sets in Odisha almost a week after making onset over Kerala. This year, even though it touched Kerala on June 8, it got delayed by almost a week in the State.
