Miscreants posing as Maoists loot gold and cash worth Rs 8 lakh in Odisha's Nayagarh

Gold and cash worth approximately Rs 8 lakh were looted from a villager’s home by a group of armed miscreants who allegedly identified themselves as Maoists and threatened the family at knife-point on Sunday night.

Gold and cash worth approximately Rs 8 lakh were looted from a villager’s home by a group of armed miscreants who allegedly identified themselves as Maoists and threatened the family at knife-point on Sunday night. The robbery occurred at Nachhipur village, located under the jurisdiction of Daspalla police station in Nayagarh district, Odisha.

Reports suggest that five armed assailants entered the house of Bijay Gochhayat late at night while he and his family were asleep. The miscreants reportedly held a knife to Bijay’s neck and declared themselves to be Maoists before forcibly breaking open locks and looting valuables, including gold and cash. The stolen items include gold necklaces, chains, rings, silver anklets, and cash. 

Police Start Investigation

Upon receiving information, Daspalla police reached the spot and launched an investigation with the help of a sniffer dog and a forensic team.

Suspect Link to Ganja Smugglers

Further reports suggest that eight miscreants had posed as Maoists and threatened Bijay Gochhayat with a machete, demanding jewellery and money from his house. Police suspect that the group may have links to ganja smugglers operating in the region.

Police officials have stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the gang members, including their leader.
