Miscreants loot sarpanch's house in Odisha’s Nayagarh

A theft occurred late last night at the residence of sarpanch Nirmala Sahu in Bhogabadi village under Daspalla police limits in Nayagarh district. While the family was asleep, a group of criminals broke into the house and looted valuables worth lakhs of rupees.

The thieves allegedly started their foray by stealing brass idols and continued to take away other items, including household belongings. The incident has left the family stunned and the local community alarmed.

On being informed, Daspalla police reached the spot early in the morning and initiated an investigation. Sniffer dogs were deployed to track the culprits, and officers have started collecting evidence from the crime scene.

Local police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as the probe continues.

“We had fallen asleep at night. After we woke up early in the morning at around 6.00 AM, we found that the doors of all rooms were broken open. The front door was closed, but the back door was open. Brass idols and other articles were stolen. Some household belongings were lying scattered here and there,” the woman sarpanch said.

“I woke up my husband, but found the valuables taken away. Gold ornaments, brassware, and land Pattas (Records of Right) have also been stolen. A briefcase was thrown by the miscreants in a nearby farmland, which we recovered in the morning. However, nothing was left inside the suitcase,” Nirmala Sahu stated.

“Previously, a dacoity had taken place at our residence long ago. I am unable to guess who is involved in the heist. We have reported the matter to Daspalla police, and a detailed probe is underway,” the woman sarpanch expressed.
