Miscreants hurl bombs at lawyer’s residence in Berhampur; police probe on

An incident of violence targeting a lawyer and his family has been reported from Odisha’s Berhampur, where miscreants allegedly hurled bombs near their residence late last night. 

The attack occurred at Shanti Marg Second Line under the jurisdiction of Bada Bazar Police Station.

The incident has raised fresh concerns as it comes shortly after the murder of lawyer Pitabas Panda, the memory of which is still fresh in the city.

Bombs Hurled Near Residence

According to reports, around nine to ten miscreants arrived near the residence of lawyer Mahesh Tripathy on Sunday night. The group allegedly abused him before hurling bombs towards the house.

The attackers also reportedly carried out an assault using swords during the incident. Visuals of the attack have been captured, which could help investigators identify those involved.

Komal Nayak, Tripathy’s wife alleged, “They continuously pelted stones at us and also hurled two bombs at the same time. When I confronted them, they threw another bomb. Rudra, Jatin and Ashok were present along with six others.”

She stated that they had CCTV footage as proof and that she had also sustained an injury to her leg. She further alleged that the attackers threatened to kill her first and then her husband.

Police Launch Investigation

After receiving information about the incident, police from Bada Bazar Police Station reached the spot and began an investigation.

The incident has created panic in the area, with residents expressing concern over the attack. Police are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the incident as part of the ongoing probe, said sources.
