Minor girl lured with new footwear, 'raped' in Odisha's Kandhamal

A minor girl studying in Class 8 was allegedly raped in the Daringbadi police station area of Kandhamal district of Odisha on Monday. The incident reportedly occurred after the accused lured the girl under the pretext of buying her footwear.

According to the complaint filed, the accused persuaded the girl to accompany him to Daringbadi, stating he would buy her new slippers. He then allegedly took her to a secluded forest area and committed the offence. 

Accused Absconding

As per reports., the girl’s parents reportedly are currently working as migrant labourers in another state. Following the incident, the girl’s uncle lodged a written complaint at the Daringbadi police station.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case and initiated search operations across multiple locations to apprehend the accused, who is currently absconding.

Police Launch Manhunt

Police officials have confirmed that multiple teams are conducting raids in different locations to apprehend the accused. Reports added that efforts are on to trace and arrest the offender at the earliest. Meanwhille, the survivor is under medical supervision, and her statement will be recorded as per law.

As of the last reports, a manhunt is underway to nab the accused. No further comments from the police could be obtained.
