Minor girl from Odisha abducted, taken to another state for forced marriage

A minor girl was allegedly abducted and taken to another state to be married off to an elderly man, according to a complaint filed at the Bhadrak Rural Police Station on Tuesday. 

The accused reportedly tied the girl’s hands and legs and thrashed her when she refused to agree to the marriage, before abandoning her on the roadside.

As per the complaint, a woman had called the minor to her house and subsequently abducted her. She was then taken by train to another state, where she was allegedly pressured to marry an elderly man. 

When the girl refused, the accused allegedly subjected her to physical torture. Following increased police pressure, the girl was brought back to Odisha and left on the road, after which the accused fled.

Police Record Statement

Police have since recorded the minor’s statement and initiated a detailed investigation into the allegations. Officers are verifying the sequence of events and identifying all individuals involved in the alleged abduction and attempted forced marriage.

Bhadrak Additional SP, Anshuman Dwivedi, said, “The girl was rescued and her statement was recorded. Our investigation will move forward based on her statement, and action will be taken against those responsible.”

The police have stated that further action will follow once the inquiry progresses and all evidence is examined.
