Panic gripped residents of Budhibili village under Kamakshyanagar block in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district after a lone elephant entered the locality late on Sunday night. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Jiral Forest Section, leaving villagers alarmed.

The elephant reportedly strayed into the village around midnight, heightening fear among locals who have been witnessing elephant movement in nearby areas over the past few days.

Elephant Feeds on Stored Paddy

According to available information, elephant movement had recently been reported in Budhibili, Guneibil, Rankia, and adjoining villages, creating an atmosphere of anxiety across the region. On the latest occasion, the animal entered the centre of Budhibili village and allegedly consumed paddy stored inside a house.

The repeated movement of the elephant has increased concerns among villagers over possible property damage and safety risks.

Forest Officials Respond

After being alerted by residents, officials from the Jiral forest range, along with other forest personnel, reached the village and managed to drive the elephant away to prevent further disturbance.

The Forest Department stated that the lone elephant later crossed the Brahmani River and moved towards the Joranda side. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation to prevent further intrusion into human settlements.
