MBA student found dead at private university hostel in Cuttack, family alleges murder

An MBA second-year student was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a private university in Barang, Cuttack, late Thursday night, triggering allegations of foul play from his family. The deceased, identified as Mrutyunjaya Bedanta from Khaira in Balasore district, had been residing in the university hostel.

According to the family, they received a call informing them of his death shortly after midnight. Mrutyunjaya had spoken to his father around 10 pm, a routine practice every night, before the unexpected call from university authorities came hours later.

Family Alleges Foul Play

The student’s father alleged that the condition in which he found his son indicated possible homicide.
“When I went to see my son, I saw blood rolling down from his nose and eyes. I suspect that someone killed him; he did not end his own life. He was staying in the college hostel and had no rivalry with anyone. He was a very good student, and the staff always said good things about him,” he said.

His sister also expressed suspicion and questioned the sequence of events, stating that the news of his death came abruptly.

“Our father spoke with him last night, and later, around midnight, we got a call from the college saying he was no more,” she said.

She further alleged that the institution was pressuring the family not to pursue a post-mortem examination.

“We want a post-mortem to be conducted, and the police also want the same. But the college authorities are pressurising us to take the body and not opt for a post-mortem. We want the truth to come out,” she added.

The family has lodged a murder complaint at the Barang police station. No official response has been received from either the police or the university authorities regarding the allegations.
