Massive fire ravages maize processing factory in Gajapati
A massive fire broke out at a maize processing factory located at K.M. Bhali Sahi under R. Udayagiri police station limits in Gajapati district late on Tuesday night, causing extensive damage and losses estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees.
According to sources, the fire suddenly erupted inside the factory premises due to reasons yet to be ascertained. The flames spread rapidly, engulfing the unit within minutes and reducing costly machinery and processing equipment to ashes. Thick smoke and flames were visible from a distance, creating panic in the surrounding area.
On receiving information, the R. Udayagiri Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched an immediate firefighting operation. After sustained efforts, the fire was brought under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby residential areas and other establishments.
Despite the timely response, several machines used for maize processing, along with raw materials and other equipment, were completely destroyed in the blaze. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities have initiated an investigation to determine whether the incident was triggered by a short circuit or any other technical fault.
