In a startling incident, an 11-foot-long king cobra was rescued from the premises of a prominent Shiva temple in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Saturday, triggering panic among locals and passersby.
The incident took place at the Gupteswar Temple located at Choudhury Tikarapada area under Digapahandi block. According to reports, a local villager noticed the massive king cobra moving inside the temple premises. Moments later, the villager heard a loud hissing sound from the reptile, which caused him to panic.
Fearing for his life, he immediately rushed out of the temple and raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby residents. Following this, the Snake Helpline team was informed about the presence of the highly venomous snake.
Responding promptly, Snake Helpline members Ramchandra Sahu and Jagannath Sahu reached the spot and carried out a careful rescue operation and managed to safely bring the king cobra out of the temple into a nearby paddy field, where it was successfully brought under control.

After the rescue, the snake was safely released into a nearby forest, ensuring the safety of both the animal and the local residents.
The sight of the gigantic king cobra attracted a large number of people, including commuters passing along the nearby road. Thanks to the timely intervention of the Snake Helpline team, a potentially dangerous situation was averted, and the incident concluded without any harm to human life or the snake.
