Marijuana worth Rs 8 cr seized at Bhubaneswar airport, passenger detained

In yet another major drug haul at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, officials have seized a large quantity of marijuana from a passenger arriving from Bangkok on Saturday.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted the passenger at the Bhubaneswar airport and recovered around 8 kilograms of marijuana from the luggage.

According to officials, the contraband was cleverly concealed inside the passenger’s baggage in an attempt to evade security checks. The seized marijuana is estimated to have an international market value of approximately Rs 8 crore.

As per sources, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence, which led to the successful interception of the suspect upon arrival. The passenger has been reportedly detained for questioning, and further interrogation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband, the intended destination, and the possible involvement of an international drug trafficking network.

Earlier some days back, Customs officials had seized marijuana worth an estimated Rs 4 crore at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar during routine security checks, triggering suspicion that the contraband was intended for circulation ahead of New Year celebrations. One person was detained in connection with the seizure.
