Malkangiri: The newly-inaugurated Gurupriya Bridge is not a bridge for development rather it is path towards destruction, alleged thousands of Maoist sympathisers in a camp organized in remote Malkangiri district.

Sources said that the camp was organized by red rebels, who opposed the Gurupriya Bridge. Besides, they are also demanding compensation for those who have been affected by the recent flooding caused by early-release of water from Balimela reservoir.

The camp was attended by Maoist sympathisers from nearly five panchayats of the district, sources said.

Agricultural land in cut-off areas which have been named as ‘Swabhiman Anchal’ is still inundated while no steps have been taken by the government officials to pay compensation for crop loss.

Earlier, the rebels had opposed the bridge in two separate camps organized at Ralegada panchayat in Malkangiri and Basuguda forest area and Korukunda in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh in the month of July and August.
