A fresh security breach was detected on Wednesday at Puri Srimandir after a man allegedly entered the shrine wearing glasses fitted with a hidden camera. The individual is suspected of having recorded the visuals of Patitapaban, violating temple norms.

Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the 12th-century shrine.
According to sources, the man was seen entering the temple through Singhadwar while wearing the spy-enabled spectacles. Police personnel on duty noticed the suspicious device, and after following him, reportedly detained the individual for questioning.
This is the latest in a series of similar incidents involving covert recording devices inside the world-famous Vaishnavite shrine, raising serious concerns about security and preservation of temple sanctity.
Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan stated later today that the State government is considering amendments to existing rules to prevent such breaches.
Recurring incidents indicate the need for stronger legal provisions and stricter enforcement to ensure that no unauthorised gadgets enter the temple premises, the Minister said.
“Some people are flying drones and taking hidden cameras (fitted to eyeglasses) into the temple (Srimandir). Such activities will be dealt with sternly. We are trying to bring about changes in the rules soon and make some provision of punishments in it. People will have fear of punishments; so that, they will not commit the crime,” the Minister expressed.
Worth mentioning, incidents of individuals entering the Srimandir with hidden cameras are increasingly coming to light. A youth from Gujarat was caught while attempting to enter the temple premises wearing glasses equipped with a hidden spy camera on August 5, 2025, and another youth from West Bengal was apprehended on August 4 over the same kind of accusation.
Besides, one more youth was caught with a hidden camera device while attempting to record visuals inside the Puri Jagannath Temple on July 29 this year. The incident had raised serious concerns about the security and sanctity of the shrine.
