Man sets neighbour’s house on fire in Odisha’s Balasore, probe on

A youth allegedly set fire to his neighbour’s house in the Soro area of Odisha's Balasore district, triggering panic in the locality. The incident took place at Munida village under Achyutpur panchayat within the jurisdiction of Khaira police station.

The fire reportedly broke out late on Monday night and destroyed the three-room house. Though local residents initially managed to douse the flames, the fire erupted again in the early hours, forcing the affected family to flee their home to save their lives.

Fire Guts Three Thatched Houses

According to sources, the house was completely gutted and reduced to ashes in the incident. The affected house reportedly belonged to Niranjan Padhi, whose household articles, cash and important documents were destroyed in the blaze. The fire first broke out last night and was temporarily brought under control by villagers.

However, at around 2–3 am, the fire broke out again with greater intensity. Thick smoke engulfed the house, alerting the family, who rushed out in a desperate attempt to save themselves. Due to the severity of the fire, no belongings could be salvaged. The Khaira fire brigade later reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Suspicion of Arson, Probe Underway

Family members claimed they saw a person setting the house on fire and fleeing from the scene and later identified him. They have alleged that a person named Pranay Pani may be involved in the incident. It is suspected that previous enmity may have led to the act.

Police have taken note of the allegations and are currently investigating the matter. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
