In a shocking incident that highlights the growing menace of property-related violence, a man was allegedly murdered by his elder brother and nephew following a bitter family feud at Putulia village under Keonjhar district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Chandrasekhar Das, while the accused have been named as Kiran Das (elder brother) and Satyajit Das (nephew). According to police reports, a long-standing land dispute between the two brothers had created deep tension within the family for years.
On the day of the incident, Kiran Das reportedly began digging on the disputed land to begin construction work. Objecting to this, Chandrasekhar went to the local police station to lodge a complaint. When he returned, an argument broke out between the brothers, quickly escalating into violence.
In a fit of rage, Kiran and his son Satyajit allegedly attacked Chandrasekhar with a sharp weapon, striking him multiple times on the head. Severely injured, Chandrasekhar was rushed to the district headquarters hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Police have arrested both the accused and seized the weapon used in the attack. An investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the murder.
Notably, this is not an isolated incident, in June this year, a similar family feud over property turned deadly in Cuttack’s Buxi Bazaar area, where a man was killed by his brother, sister-in-law, and nephew. Police fear such recurring family conflicts underline a disturbing trend of rising intra-family violence over land and inheritance disputes in the state.
