Police have arrested 12 more persons on Sunday in connection with the violent clashes reported from MV-26 village of Malkangiri district. With six arrests made a day earlier, the total number of people taken into custody has now risen to 18 as investigations continue.
Efforts to Restore Normalcy
Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi held discussions with both sides in an effort to defuse tensionsand appealed residents to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
Situation Shows Improvement
According to the district administration, the overall situation in the violence-hit areas is gradually improving and normal life is slowly returning. However, security forces remain deployed at sensitive locations to prevent any fresh flare-ups and to maintain law and order.

Internet Shutdown Continues
Despite the improving situation, the district administration has extended the internet suspension in the region till 12 noon on Monday. Officials said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of rumours and misinformation.
The district administration has estimated the total damage caused due to the violence at around Rs 3.80 crore. Officials said extensive damage was reported to public and private properties during the unrest.
Essential services, including electricity supply and drinking water, which were disrupted following the incident, have since been fully restored in the affected areas.
With arrests underway and dialogue initiated, the administration remains hopeful that calm will be fully restored in Malkangiri district in the coming days.
