Panic gripped Tichini village under Krushnaprasad block in Puri district after a massive fire broke out at a cement block factory on Wednesday. Nearly seven workers had a close shave as flames rapidly engulfed the premises.
According to sources, the fire broke out at around 1 pm when workers were cooking inside the factory premises. The fire reportedly broke out from a gas cylinder.
The situation worsened after three other gas cylinders kept inside the unit exploded, triggering a massive inferno. Thick plumes of smoke and raging flames were seen billowing out of the factory, sparking fear in the locality.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. Fire tenders were pressed into service to bring the flames under control. Besides, the low-pressure induced rain also helped in containing the flame. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap.

The incident has raised concerns over safety measures at industrial units operating in the region. While no comments from the officials of the cement block unit could be obtained, and extent of loss is yet to be ascertained.
