Maa Majhighariani temple hundi yields over Rs 1.05 crore in donations

During the counting, cash amounting to Rs 1,05,52,845 was recovered from the hundi. In addition, 2,150 grams of silver and 30 grams of gold were found.

The counting of donations from the hundi of Maa Majhighariani temple, the presiding deity of Rayagada, concluded on Monday.

During the counting, cash amounting to Rs 1,05,52,845 was recovered from the hundi. In addition, 2,150 grams of silver and 30 grams of gold were found.

Officials also informed that 23 foreign currency notes were recovered from the hundi during the counting process.

In the previous counting conducted in July, the total donation amount had exceeded Rs 1 crore and 4 lakh.

For today’s counting process, around 250 women volunteers from various voluntary organisations were engaged. All the nine hundis were opened around 9 am and the cash was counted under tight police security, in the presence of the Tehsildar and members of the temple management committee.

"I have come to Maa Majhighariani Temple to count the donation from the hundis. I am so fortunate to offer service for the Goddess. I express my gratitude before the Goddess. I have been coming to the temple for this purpose for the last four years," said B Shrabanti, a woman volunteer.

"Volunteers from different temples and coaching centres helped us in the counting process. The counting process started at around 9 am, and counting of as many as nine hundis were done," said Raisingh Bidika, President of Majhighariani Temple Trust.
