Low Pressure Likely In 24 Hours, Odisha Puts Collectors On Alert

Bhubaneswar: A low pressure is likely to form over East Central Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours and is likely to move west -northwestwards and become more marked in subsequent 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.

The system is likely to trigger rain, thunderstorm and lightning activities in different parts of Odisha in the next five days. Yellow and orange warnings have also been issued for several districts.

In view of the IMD forecast of thunderstorm and lightning and heavy rainfall, Odisha today asked all district Collectors to remain alert and take necessary steps.

Day 1: (Valid up to 0830 hrs of June 9): Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm likely to occur at several parts of coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhaj, Dhenkanal, Koraput, Kandhamal, Boudh and Kandhamal.

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning will occur at isolated parts of coastal Odisha, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Boudh, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal.

Day 2: (Valid up to 0830 hrs of June 10): Districts of south and north Odisha to experience light to moderate rain with thunderstorm activity.

Yellow Warning: Coastal Odisha districts and other parts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal and Kalahandi. Heavy rainfall also likely to occur in districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri and Khurda.

Day 3: (Valid Up to 0830 hours of June 11):

Yellow Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur in isolated parts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati and Puri.

Day 4: (Valid Up to 0830 hours of June 12):

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

Day 5: (Valid Up to 0830 hours of June 13):

Yellow Warning: Heavy to very heavy rain alert issued for the districts of Nuapada, Bargarh, Bolangir and Nabarangpur.
