A tragic incident has shaken the DP Camp area under Sunabeda police station in Odisha’s Koraput district after a young man on Wednesday ended his life by jumping into a river after his ‘girlfriend’ ended her life after their alleged breakup.

According to Sunabeda police, the 19-year-old woman was in love with 22-year-old Bishal Pradhan, who worked in a company in Bangalore. The young couple was in a relationship for quite some time.

Shockingly, the girl allegedly took her own life by hanging herself at her house after an apparent breakup. She was found hanging her a ceiling fan in the absence of her family members.

As word spread of his disappearance around 7:30 PM, police, Fire Services personnel, and an eight-member rescue team began an extensive search operation. The ODRAF team was also called in to assist due to the depth of the river and limited visibility at night.

After nearly 19 hours of relentless effort, Bishal’s lifeless body was finally recovered from the river. The tragedy has left the entire Sunabeda region in mourning, with locals expressing deep sorrow over the double loss of two young lives tied by love and heartbreak.

Sunabeda Police have registered a case under Section 11/2025, and the bodies have been sent to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput for post-mortem examination. Investigating officers IIC Sushuma Kunhara and SI Nirmala Lima confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to uncover the circumstances that led to the tragic end.

The twin deaths have sparked emotional reactions across the community, serving as a painful reminder of how fragile young lives can be when love turns into despair.
