Lady Cop In Odisha Releases Song For Women Safety

Gajapati: Providing a complete new dimension to women security in the State, Gajapati Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarah Sharma came up with a unique approach ahead of the launch of 'SHE Team', by recording a theme song for the initiative. The song voiced by the SP herself has gone viral in social media post its release on Tuesday.

SHE Team, a pilot project of Gajapati Police aims to ensure safety and security of women and children in the district. The initiative was launched in the district by Sharma on Tuesday.

The team comprising seven constables, headed by a lady Sub-Inspector, has been assigned tasks to conduct patrolling in schools, colleges and other institutions frequently visited by girls and women. It will also spread awareness among the women and girls to raise their voice against violence.

“Speaking to a few girls in the district, I came to know that the number of eve-teasing cases which go unreported is very high here. I was shaken to know that even after adequate deployment of police personnel in Gajapati, girls and women of the district are scared to come out at night. It is then that I decided to come up with this initiative. It will certainly bring a change in the society,” said Sharma.

Women can get equal status in the society only if both men and women become fully aware of their rights, added the SP.

A helpline number will also be made available so that girls and women can easily file any complaint of harassment against them. Notably, the 'She Team' is a brain child of Hyderabad Police and at present has become very famous in helping women and girls in distress in the city.
