The officer-in-charge (OIC) of Dasamantapur Police Station in Koraput district, Sukma Hansda, has been suspended following her arrest by the Vigilance Department in a bribery case. The suspension comes in the wake of serious allegations of corruption and misuse of official position.

Arrest During Bribe Transaction

According to official sources, the Jeypore Vigilance team arrested the police officer on December 18 while she was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. The bribe was reportedly demanded in return for settling a case and providing relief to the complainant. Acting on a complaint, Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught the OIC red-handed during the transaction.

Case Registered Under PC Act

Following the arrest, a case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The vigilance team seized the bribe amount and initiated further legal proceedings.

Departmental Action and Suspension

In the wake of the vigilance action, the Police Department initiated disciplinary proceedings and placed Sukma Hansda under immediate suspension pending inquiry.

Probe Underway

Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused was involved in similar corrupt practices earlier. The Vigilance Department is continuing its probe to gather additional evidence and examine all aspects of the case.

The administration has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and assured strict action against any government official found guilty of malpractice. The incident has drawn public attention in the region, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb corruption within government departments.
