The Koraput district administration on Sunday has withdrawn its earlier order banning the sale of non-vegetarian food items on Republic Day. The decision to lift the restrictions was announced by Koraput District Collector Manoj Satyawan Mahajan through a post on social media platform X, bringing immediate relief to traders and residents.
With the withdrawal, the restrictions issued by the district administration will no longer be enforced on January 26. The move comes amid criticism from various sections over the earlier directive that had called for a district-wide ban on the sale of non-vegetarian food.
Earlier Order and Administrative Directive
Earlier, the Koraput district administration had announced a complete ban on the sale of eggs, fish, chicken, mutton and other non-vegetarian food items on Republic Day, January 26, 2026. The decision was taken as part of administrative guidelines aimed at observing the national occasion with uniformity across the district.

A formal directive had been issued by the Collector to all Block Development Officers, Tahsildars and Executive Officers, instructing them to ensure strict compliance. Officials were directed to maintain close supervision and take enforcement measures across both urban and rural areas. Residents were also appealed to observe Republic Day by opting for vegetarian food.
Public Reaction and Criticism
The order, noted as the first such restriction in Koraput on Republic Day, triggered mixed reactions. While some supported the move, others criticised it, stating that Republic Day is a national festival and not a religious occasion. Critics questioned the need for a blanket ban, suggesting regulation instead. The withdrawal follows these objections raised from multiple quarters.
