KISS student murder: ST Commission seeks report in 3 days, orders probe into similar cases in the institution
Taking serious note of the murder of a tribal Class IX student at Bhubaneswar’s premier Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (ST) on Thursday took suo motu cognisance of the incident and ordered a detailed investigation into the matter.
The Commission has sought explanations from the School and Mass Education Secretary, Khordha District Collector, and the Superintendent of Police (SP), directing them to submit a detailed report on the action taken so far. The authorities have been asked to respond within three days, failing which further action may be initiated.

Expressing concern over the incident, the ST Commission noted that similar cases had reportedly occurred earlier at the same institution, raising serious questions about student safety and administrative oversight. The Commission has emphasised the need for strict accountability and corrective measures to prevent such incidents in future.
As part of the inquiry, members of the ST Commission will visit Bhubaneswar to conduct an on-the-spot investigation. During the visit, the Commission members are expected to interact with officials, examine records, and assess the circumstances leading to the student’s death.
Further developments are awaited as the investigation progresses and the concerned authorities submit their reports to the Commission.
