Kerala flood: Family members of trapped Kandhamal workers plead for help
Kandhamal: The families of three Odia labourers trapped in Ernakulum district of Kerala following the floods have pleaded help from the state government.
The trio – Manoj Nayak, Niranjan Kanhar and Sumant Pradhan hail from the Chahali village under Chakapada block in Kandhamal district.
The family members, through a letter to the District Labour Officer have appealed the government to take steps to rescue the three who are not being allowed to move out by their employer despite the flood situation.
“All the three had accompanied another villager who took them to Kerala for work. The employer was not providing them proper food and had kept them under house arrest. We appeal to the district administration to rescue them immediately,” alleged Samrat Nayak -relative of one of the stranded workers.
“After working for a week, flood struck Kerala following which they were left stranded. The owner is not giving them proper food and also threatening to destroy their mobile phones. They are not able to contact us. Please rescue them,” informed another relative of one of the youths, Gokul Nayak.
On the other hand, the district labour officer R.K Behera informed that steps are being taken to rescue the trio. “We have contacted the Kerala Labour department and the officials concerned have assured to rescue the labourers after the relief work is over,” said Behera.
