The Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Angul has suspended a junior clerk of Angul District Headquarters Hospital over allegations of large-scale financial embezzlement.

According to reports, a police case has also been filed against the accused Subrat Behera.

Subrat was reportedly serving in the capacity of an accountant at the Angul District Headquarters Hospital. He has allegedly siphoned off several crores of rupees from the government treasury. Reports suggest that he fraudulently drew salaries far exceeding his entitled pay.

The irregularities came to light following a detailed audit conducted by teams from the Accountant General’s Office and the Health Department. During their inspection, significant discrepancies were detected in salary and financial records.

According to preliminary investigations, more than Rs 2 crore has been misappropriated. The Health Department’s audit team visited the hospital again today to continue the probe.

Angul CDMO Dr. Madan Mohan Pradhan informed about the development on Tuesday.

As per sources, further investigation into the financial misconduct is currently underway.

"Following AG audit, treasury and internal audits are going on. We came to know that he (Behera) has siphoned off a huge amount of money with his computer skills. It has been found so far that he has embezzled more than Rs 2 crore. After getting proper evidence, we have lodged an FIR against him at the police station," said Angul CDMO Dr Madan Mohan Pradhan.
