Journalist injured in attack by liquor mafia, hospitalised
Balasore: A journalist was hospitalised after being allegedly attacked by liquor mafia with sharp weapons near Anantpur ghat in Balasore district on Saturday.
The journalist Pramod Rout, who is currently working for a daily newspaper in Balasore, has been admitted to Soro Community Health Centre for treatment.
Rout was allegedly attacked by the mafia for writing against the ongoing illegal liquor trade in the district.
On Saturday, Rout was intercepted by some liquor traders at Anantpur ghat area when he was on the way to his sister’s house. They first verbally abused Rout and later attacked him with sharp weapons, said sources.
Hearing Rout’s screams, locals gathered near the spot and rushed him to the hospital. In the meantime, the miscreants managed to flee the spot.
Earlier, the liquor traders had also allegedly attacked journalists in Soro and Baliapal in the district for publishing news against the illegal trader of alcohol in the region.
