Police arrested nine members of a dacoit gang in connection with a robbery in Talamunda village under Laikera police limits in Jharsuguda district, on Saturday.

According to sources, the arrests were made within 72 hours of the crime, which took place late at night in Talamunda village. Acting swiftly after the incident, Jharsuguda Police had formed a special team to investigate the case.
During the operation, police seized gold and silver ornaments, cash amounting to Rs 1.43 lakh, and an SUV allegedly used by the accused during the robbery.
Investigators tracked down the suspects with the help of CCTV footage and technical inputs from the cyber cell. Following their arrest, all nine accused were produced before a local court later in the day.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to determine whether more individuals were involved in the crime.
“Under Operation Netra, Jharsuguda Police has successfully detected the dacoity case of Talamunda village under Laikera PS within three days. Immediately after the incident on 02/03.03.2026 midnight, senior officers reached the spot. On receipt of a report from the complainant, a case was registered, and an investigation was taken up on a priority basis,” a press release issued in this regard mentioned.
“The crime scene was secured and scientifically examined. Cellular Tower Dump and CCTV footage from the nearby locations were collected and analysed. Multiple teams were formed to track down the offenders. Technical as well as field intelligence was effectively utilised. Police teams launched a swift and coordinated investigation for quick detection of the case,” the official communique stated.
Due to meticulous investigation, the accused persons involved in the dacoity were identified and apprehended, and the stolen properties have also been recovered. The accused persons were produced before court U/s-310(2)/115(2)/111 (4)/61(2)(a) BNS R/W Section 25(1) (a)/ 27(1) of the Arms Act. A detailed investigation of the case is underway, the police said.
