Emphasising the importance of identifying the root cause, the S&ME Minister stated that investigations are underway to determine how the infection is spreading. In Dhenkanal’s Gondia block, two students have been diagnosed with jaundice and are currently receiving medical treatment.

The State government is treating the matter with utmost seriousness. Once the root cause is identified, measures such as installing water purification systems like Aquaguard units will be implemented, the Minister informed.

Authorities will also assess what additional steps are required within schools to prevent further cases.

“Jaundice spreading (in some schools) is certainly a matter of concern. The reason behind the disease needs to be ascertained. It is also essential to keep the infectious disease at bay. Medical treatment is being provided to two affected students of a school in Gondia. Efforts will be made to prevent any probable spread of the disease,” the Minister said.

“If required, we will also take the help of the Health Department in this regard. This matter, pertaining to students, is being taken seriously,” the Minister added.
