Amid rising threat of Jaundice in the silver city of Odisha Cuttack, the WATCO Managing Director on Wednesday visited the affected localities and inspected the water purification plants. The director stated that contaminated wells and tube wells could be the source of the infection.
Steps are being taken to disinfect these sources, and they will be sealed if required.
According to sources, Health Department and WATCO teams carried out field visits to assess the situation. Officials conducted door-to-door checks on affected residents and spread awareness about using clean water and maintaining hygiene. Special camps have been organised in Wards 10 and 12 to collect blood samples for testing.
12 persons in Ward 10 of the Mansingh Patna area, two in Ward 12 and six in Ramgarh have been affected.
"Three members of our family were suffering from jaundice, but all of them have now recovered and are healthy. However, the drinking water here is severely affected and appears to be contaminated. Black particles were seen floating in the water, and it had a foul smell similar to that of a drain. We are taking precautions, but we are living in constant fear. Even now, the water has a strong bleaching smell and appears yellowish in colour. The colour does not change even after boiling,” said local resident Adyasha Jethi.
With coordinated efforts underway, authorities are closely monitoring the outbreak and taking preventive measures to curb further spread. The administration’s prompt response aims to restore public confidence and ensure the health and safety of residents.
