Injured Tusker from Jharkhand triggers panic in Odisha Photograph: (OTV)
Tension prevailed across Balasore’s Nilagiri region on Friday after an injured elephant from Jharkhand strayed into human habitation, creating widespread panic among villagers. The lone tusker, visibly wounded, was first spotted roaming in the Jambudihi area, where it reportedly caused fear and disruption throughout the day.
The elephant reportedly moved out of its herd and entered the densely populated village zone of Nilagiri–Sajanagad State Highway, increasing anxiety among villagers who feared potential damage or attacks.
Nilgiri Ranger confirmed that the injured elephant had separated from its herd due to the wounds it sustained, particularly in its mouth. He added that the animal is capable of returning to its herd on its own and that further treatment will begin once veterinarians assess its condition.

Forest department officials have been alerted and are monitoring the movement of the elephant. Efforts are likely to be made to treat the injured animal and move it back into the forest safely.
Meanwhile, villagers are deeply concerned about how the injured elephant will be treated and whether it will be reunited with its herd. Authorities have urged locals to remain cautious, avoid approaching the animal, and immediately report any sightings.
