In an unusual turn of events, a newly married couple from Bhubaneswar was compelled to attend their own wedding reception virtually after their IndiGo flight was abruptly cancelled. The incident, reported from Bengaluru, has sparked discussions on the growing inconvenience caused by frequent flight disruptions.
The couple, both employed in an IT company, tied the knot on November 23 in Bhubaneswar. The bride, Sangama Das from Bhubaneswar, married Medha Krishnasagar, originally from Hubballi and currently working in Bengaluru.
Following their wedding, preparations were made for a grand reception on December 3 in Krishnasagar’s hometown, Hubballi, where friends, relatives, and well-wishers were eagerly awaiting the couple’s arrival.

However, on the morning of the reception, the couple’s travel plans were thrown into chaos. Their IndiGo flight, scheduled to depart at 4 AM, was suddenly cancelled, leaving them stranded in Bengaluru.
Despite exploring alternatives, the couple was unable to secure another flight or a suitable travel arrangement in time to reach Hubballi for the event.
With no other option left, the newlyweds decided to join their reception virtually. Using video conferencing, they interacted with guests, thanked attendees, and participated in rituals online—a scenario neither they nor their families had ever imagined.
Guests at the venue adapted to the situation, greeting the couple on large screens and expressing support for their unexpected digital celebration.
